The B8.5 facelift keeps the recognizable proportions of the first-generation Audi A5 while giving the exterior a sharper and more modern character. For owners upgrading the car today, the most important distinction is not simply the model year. The original bumper, A5 or S5 specification and body style can all determine which exterior part fits correctly.

B8 vs B8.5: Check the Facelift Before Choosing Front Parts
The earlier B8 and B8.5 share the same first-generation A5 platform and overall body proportions, but bumper-mounted exterior parts should not automatically be treated as interchangeable. Front lips and bumper vent pieces are shaped around the lower bumper surface, side openings and mounting edges, making facelift identification especially important.

A5 Base, S line and S5 Are Not the Same Exterior
Trim level matters on the B8.5 because the exterior specification changes between A5 configurations. Audi equipped S line models with dedicated exterior styling that includes an S line bumper, side skirts and rear diffuser, while the S5 uses its own S-specific body styling and grille treatment.
This means a carbon fiber front lip or rear diffuser listed for an A5 S line or S5 should not automatically be assumed to fit an A5 Base bumper. Before ordering, compare the bumper openings, lower edge, diffuser shape and mounting area with the product images.
Choosing a Rear Diffuser for the A5 S line or S5
Rear diffuser selection deserves particular attention on the B8.5 because bumper design and exhaust layout are closely related. The S5 uses a different rear treatment and twin exhaust outlets on both the left and right sides, while other A5 configurations can use different exhaust arrangements.
Check both the rear bumper and exhaust openings before choosing a diffuser. A part that matches the model year but does not match the bumper or exhaust configuration can still be the wrong application. This is why separate diffuser designs are offered for selected A5 S line and S5 configurations.
Coupe, Sportback and Convertible Spoiler Fitment
The A5 family combines the low profile of the Coupe with other body styles that use different rear surfaces. The Sportback retains the flowing A5 design but uses a larger rear hatch, while Coupe and Convertible models have different trunk and deck-lid shapes.
Rear trunk and roof spoilers should therefore be selected by body style as well as year. A spoiler designed around a Coupe trunk lid should not be assumed to match a Sportback hatch or Convertible rear deck simply because all three vehicles are described as A5 or S5 B8.5 models.
Side Skirts and Parts Shared with the Earlier B8
Not every exterior component changes at the facelift. Some products in this collection are specifically listed across a wider B8 and B8.5 year range, particularly selected side skirts and rear spoilers. When the mounting area is confirmed as compatible, the same product can correctly serve both generations.
Follow the individual product fitment rather than assuming that every 2008–2016 part is interchangeable. A cross-generation spoiler or side skirt does not mean that bumper-mounted front lips and rear diffusers will also fit both B8 and B8.5 vehicles.
Mirror Covers, Hood and Exterior Trim
Carbon fiber mirror covers and other exterior trim can add smaller visual details without changing the complete body profile, while a carbon fiber hood creates a much larger change to the front appearance. These products should still be selected according to the exact application shown on the product page.
For replacement-style parts, confirm the original component shape and mounting points before removal. For larger panels such as a hood, professional test-fitting and alignment are recommended before final installation.
Building a Balanced B8.5 Exterior
The B8.5 A5 and S5 have relatively clean body surfaces and a strong horizontal profile, so exterior upgrades usually work best when the front, side and rear components follow a consistent visual theme. A front lip can add definition to the lower bumper, side skirts can continue that lower line along the body, and a properly matched rear diffuser or spoiler can complete the rear appearance.
Rather than selecting every component only by style, consider bumper compatibility, body style, ground clearance and carbon finish together. This creates a more cohesive upgrade while reducing the risk of ordering a part intended for another A5 or S5 configuration.
